Christopher “Doc” Upshaw
Christopher “Doc” Upshaw is a Partner at Sanchez Hayes & Associates, LLC, where he assists with the firm’s criminal, civil litigation, and employment practice. A significant part of Mr. Upshaw’s practice is devoted to criminal defense, where he represents and defends the rights of the accused in municipal, state, superior, and federal courts throughout Georgia. Mr. Upshaw has obtained favorable outcomes for hundreds of clients facing major challenges and takes pride in calmly and compassionately helping people navigate what is often the most difficult time in their lives. He has obtained many jury trial acquittals and pretrial dismissals throughout Metro Atlanta in matters ranging from DUI and Battery to Drug Trafficking and homicide, and everything in between. In addition, Mr. Upshaw devotes substantial time to state and federal civil litigation such as police brutality, false arrest, excessive force, contract disputes and various employment matters.
Mr. Upshaw received his J.D. from Tulane University School of Law. While at Tulane, Mr. Upshaw was the Director of the Criminal Division of the Tulane University Legal Assistance Program. In that capacity, Mr. Upshaw provided free and low cost legal services to criminal defendants in and around New Orleans, Louisiana. During that time, Mr. Upshaw also practiced with the Tulane Civil Litigation Clinic where he represented plaintiffs in need of affordable housing. Mr. Upshaw received his B.A. in Political Science and Spanish from the University of Alabama. At Alabama, Mr. Upshaw was a member of the University Honors Program and the Blount Undergraduate Initiative.
Mr. Upshaw was admitted to the State Bar of Georgia in 2015.
